The City of Toronto publishes a list of childcare by Ward. It provides a list of places, telephone numbers, services, forms for subsidized space, etc. The websites include descriptions of the centre in question, photos, waitlists, etc. The links below will take you to the appropriate City site for Ward 14.
In order for you to find information more easily, it helps if you understand the way the City of Toronto names and numbers city and school board wards.
First, you need to know that federal and provincial ridings currently cover exactly the same geographical territory and are named the same at each level. Toronto Centre Rosedale is the name used by the MP, the MPP, and the trustee. Each riding has one MP, one MPP and one Trustee.
The city believes it needs two councillors to represent each riding. As a result, there are 44 city counsellors looking after the same number of constituents as 22 Trustees. Because they only represent half of a riding, they cannot use the names of the ridings represented by the MP, MPP and Trustee. Instead, they refer simply to ward numbers. Trustees are covered by the municipal act and so the city uses its numbering approach to name the wards represented by Trustees.
The numbering of city wards is double the number of trustee wards and the number of each trustee ward is always half of the even number of the two city wards. Thus, Toronto Centre Rosedale's two city wards are numbered 27 and 28 and the board of education number is 14 (half of 28). As another example, Don Valley West has two councillors and the city refers to these as Ward 25 and 26 and the TDSB refers to it as Ward 13 (half of 26). The TDSB also prefers and uses the names of ridings used provincially and federally and we use the city terminology of ward XX when referring to specific city concerns.
Because you will be looking for city-run childcare sites, and you will be accessing the City of Toronto website, I use city tewrminology, which in our case refers to Ward 27 and Ward 28, which is our Ward 14.
