Saturday, Sept 10, 2011 was one of those beautiful fall days when just being alive and in the warmth of the sun was all one could ask. It was also a great day for the Cabbagetown Youth Centre's annual mini marathon (3 km) for all ages. Kids, grandparents and everyone in between got under way at 9:15 AM when our Toronto Centre MP Bob Rae yelled "GO!" and they were off.
The annual "Blair's Run" is a major fundraiser for Cabbagetown Youth Centre, one of the jewels in Toronto Centre. Hundreds of kids attend programs where they learn skills that help them through school and through life. Spiro Papathanasakis is the founder and Executive Director of the Youth Centre and is the driving force that is making a huge difference in kids lives daily. The $10 entry fee for registration in the race helps sustain the work of the Centre. Spiro and his brother Louis grew up in Cabbagetown and Louie, now the principal of Midland Avenue Agincourt secondary school, announced the winners and made sure prizes were handed out to winers after the race.
